Four Seasons Heads to Tangier

Toronto-based Four Seasons has signed a 99-key resort with 27 villas on Tangier's Cap Malabata, its fourth in Morocco. It gives Morocco itineraries a luxury northern anchor.

Morocco’s luxury circuit has a gap at the top of the map, and Four Seasons intends to fill it. The Toronto-based company announced on 8 October that it will open Four Seasons Resort Tangier on the Cap Malabata waterfront, overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. It will be the brand’s fourth property in Morocco, after Casablanca, Marrakech and Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr.

For advisors, this matters less as a single hotel than as a routing tool. Tangier has long been a day trip or a ferry crossing on a Spain-Morocco itinerary. A Four Seasons gives it a reason for a client to stay.

The resort

According to the release:

  • 99 guest rooms and suites, including 27 standalone villas.
  • More than 260 metres (850 feet) of waterfront, with a large pool and waterfront lounging areas.
  • Four signature restaurants mixing local and international cooking, a full-service spa and fitness centre, Kids For All Seasons, and indoor and outdoor event space.
  • Architecture by Arjitec; interiors by Goddard Littlefair.
  • About 15 minutes from Tangier’s high-speed train station and 45 minutes from Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport.

Four Seasons did not give an opening date.

The development

The resort sits inside Royal Resort Cap Malabata, a luxury development backed by GFH. Its masterplan covers about 1.10 million square metres and roughly 1,200 villas and apartments, with room for four hotels, according to the release. The release does not describe any of those homes as Four Seasons-branded.

Ricardo Suarez, Group Head, Development at Four Seasons, said: “As our fourth property in Morocco, Four Seasons Resort Tangier expands our collection.” Abdulwahed Al Kooheji, chief executive of Royal Resort Cap Malabata, said Tangier’s “strategic location, rich cultural heritage, and exceptional waterfront setting make it an ideal destination.”

Why the train matters

The resort’s distance from the high-speed station is the commercially useful line in the release. Morocco’s high-speed line links Tangier with Rabat and Casablanca, both already Four Seasons cities. That makes a north-to-south, single-brand Morocco itinerary possible for clients who want consistency: Tangier and the Rif, the capital, then Casablanca or onward to Marrakech. For a Spain combination, Tangier also sits across the Strait from Tarifa and Algeciras.

Villas and a children’s programme point to multigenerational families and buy-outs, which is where Morocco’s high-end demand already sits.

For advisors

  • Who to pitch: Morocco repeaters who have done Marrakech and want the north; Spain clients adding a crossing; families who need villa space.
  • What to build now: a rail-based Morocco circuit using the three existing Four Seasons (Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech), ready to add Tangier when it opens.
  • What to watch: an opening date, villa pricing, and whether residences in the wider development enter a rental programme.
  • Register interest with your Four Seasons sales contact to be first in line for pre-opening offers.
