The Standard, Lisbon
The Standard's Portugal debut fills a former royal naval hospital in Alfama with 170 rooms, Jaime Hayon interiors, a river-view rooftop bar and a four-pool spa.
The Standard opens its first hotel in Portugal in the first quarter of 2027, inside Palácio Santa Clara in Alfama, above the Tagus. The building began as the College of St. Francis Xavier and then served as the Portuguese Royal Navy Hospital for more than two centuries.
The building and design
Jaime Hayon leads the interiors, with Verena Haller and Hyatt’s Lifestyle Group design team. The architecture is by Samuel Torres de Carvalho.
Rooms
There are 170 rooms, from singles to a Chapel Suite, plus 24 long-stay apartments that the publicist says will arrive later in a separate building, which suits groups and families.
Eat, drink and the spa
Um Dois Três is the all-day restaurant, with three terraces. There’s a street-facing café, Café Ladra, a bar lounge in a former pharmacy storeroom and a rooftop bar over the river. The spa has four temperature-controlled pools, a steam room and sauna, and there’s an outdoor pool overlooking Santa Apolónia station and the water.
For advisors
The Standard is part of Hyatt, so World of Hyatt applies. Alfama is steep and full of stairs, so tell clients with limited mobility before they book. No rates or exact opening date have been published.
