The Best Adults-Only All-Inclusives in Cancún

Cancún's adults-only resorts split into three areas with different beaches, transfer times and nightlife. Pick the area first, then the resort.

Checked at the source16 sources, linked

Cancún’s adults-only resorts are not interchangeable, and the biggest decision is not the brand. It is the area. The Hotel Zone, Costa Mujeres and Playa Mujeres sit within a short drive of each other but offer different beaches, different transfer times and very different evenings. Choose the area that fits the trip, then the resort.

This guide covers those three areas only. For Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos and Tulum, see our guide to where to stay in the Riviera Maya. For when to go, see when to go to the Riviera Maya, which covers the whole Mexican Caribbean coast.

The three areas compared

Hotel Zone Costa Mujeres Playa Mujeres
Where The barrier strip along Blvd. Kukulcán, between Nichupté Lagoon and the sea Mainland coast north of downtown Cancún, facing Isla Mujeres Gated resort and golf community just south of Costa Mujeres
Beaches Open-sea beaches on the long eastern stretch; calmer bay-facing beaches nearer downtown Newer resort beachfront; Isla Mujeres a short ferry ride away Resort beaches within the gated community
From CUN airport The closest of the three Further, on the far side of downtown Resorts quote about 35 to 45 minutes
Evenings out Restaurants, bars and clubs along the strip Mostly in-resort Mostly in-resort; golf on site

The Hotel Zone suits couples who want to leave the resort at night. Costa Mujeres and Playa Mujeres suit couples who plan to stay put and want newer, larger resorts with more space around them. The trade-off is time: Atelier Playa Mujeres puts itself about 30 km and roughly 45 minutes from the airport, and Hyatt puts Secrets Playa Mujeres at about 35 minutes.

Sargassum. Seaweed can reach any beach on this coast, and the open-sea beaches on the Hotel Zone’s long eastern stretch face the full Caribbean. Beach width and condition there vary from resort to resort and season to season, so ask for current photos. The Mexican Navy publishes daily sargassum bulletins with a traffic-light rating for the Mexican Caribbean. Check the latest before you promise a client a perfect beach.

Costa Mujeres

Ocean Allure Costa Mujeres

Ocean Allure Costa Mujeres is the newest resort here. Its fact sheet gives a soft opening on 1 December 2025 and a grand opening on 7 January 2026. It is the flagship of Ocean Signature Resorts’ Ocean Allure adults-only brand. The resort page says it is for guests aged 18 and over.

  • Who it suits: couples and friends who want a big, new resort with plenty to do on site.
  • Standout: 599 rooms, a wave pool and lazy river, and rooftop infinity pools in the Privilege area. The resort also lists eight restaurants, a bowling alley, a virtual golf lab and three pickleball courts.
  • Caveat: it is large. Privilege, the upgraded tier with exclusive areas, costs extra, as do spa treatments. Free airport transfers apply only to stays of three nights or more booked on the resort’s own website.

Playa Mujeres

Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort

Hyatt reopened Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort in January 2026 after a renovation. It has 424 suites, all redesigned, plus a new private beach club and a two-storey Preferred Club building.

  • Who it suits: golfers. The resort sits on a course designed by Greg Norman.
  • Standout: guests can also use the family-friendly Dreams Playa Mujeres next door, which doubles the dining choice.
  • Caveat: that shared access means children are close by. Clients who want a strictly child-free setting should know the next-door resort is a family one.

Excellence Playa Mujeres

Excellence Playa Mujeres is adults-only and sells itself on suites and a top-tier Excellence Club.

  • Who it suits: couples who want a polished, quieter all-inclusive with an upgrade path.
  • Standout: on its own site it lists Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice (2022) and U.S. News & World Report Best Resorts (2025) recognitions, plus EarthCheck Platinum certification.
  • Caveat: like everything in Playa Mujeres, it is a drive from the airport and from Cancún’s restaurants.

Atelier Playa Mujeres

Atelier Playa Mujeres sits inside the Playa Mujeres condo complex, surrounded by an 18-hole golf course.

  • Who it suits: couples who want golf on the doorstep and attentive service.
  • Standout: butler service, NUUP Spa and a dog-friendly programme, Pet-It.
  • Caveat: the minimum age is 16, not 18, according to the resort’s FAQ. The person who books must be 18. Clients who expect no teenagers should know this.

Hotel Zone

Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancún

Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancún is at km 10 of Blvd. Kukulcán.

  • Who it suits: couples who want butler service and a central Hotel Zone address close to the city’s restaurants.
  • Standout: personalised butler service and gratuities are included, according to the resort’s FAQ, along with BlancSpa.
  • Caveat: airport transfers cost extra unless you book four nights or more on its website. Check the current beach and sargassum situation for this stretch.

Hyatt Zilara Cancún

Hyatt Zilara Cancún is at km 11.5, between Nichupté Lagoon and the sea. Hyatt completed a full renovation in May 2026.

  • Who it suits: couples who want a mid-sized resort (310 suites) and many dining choices.
  • Standout: 12 restaurants, including Bokeh, a reservation-only speakeasy with 23 seats, and Casa Adelita, a Yucatecan dinner for 10 guests at one seating.
  • Caveat: the newest dining concepts are small, so book them early.

Secrets The Vine Cancún

Secrets The Vine Cancún is an adults-only Hotel Zone resort with views of both the sea and Laguna Nichupté.

  • Who it suits: wine lovers. It has a wine bar and sommelier-led tastings and pairings.
  • Standout: 497 rooms and suites and eight dining venues.
  • Caveat: some wine experiences cost extra, and at nearly 500 rooms it is not intimate.

Sun Palace

Sun Palace is Palace Resorts’ adults-only property on Blvd. Kukulcán.

  • Who it suits: couples who want a Hotel Zone address and a straightforward all-inclusive.
  • Standout: direct bookings of four nights or more include round-trip airport transfers, according to the resort’s site.
  • Caveat: spa treatments at O Spa cost extra. Check the room category and view before you book.

Getting in: Mexico’s digital entry

Mexico has moved airport entry largely online. At Cancún, Terminals 3 and 4 have self-service e-gates (Filtros Migratorios Autónomos). According to Mexico’s foreign ministry, they are open to tourists aged over 18 from a list of countries that includes the United States and Canada, travelling on an electronic passport with more than 180 days’ validity, who are not travelling with minors. The gate issues a ticket with a QR code. Scan it to download your digital FMM, Mexico’s tourist entry permit, and keep it for departure.

UK guidance from the FCDO says your passport must be valid for your whole stay, and Mexico’s embassy recommends at least 180 days. Officers may ask for a return ticket and proof of funds. Travellers who go through a staffed desk get a stamp showing how many days they may stay.

When to book

Demand at Cancún’s adults-only resorts peaks in the same weeks as everywhere else on this coast: Christmas and New Year, Canadian March Break, US spring break and UK February half-term. Couples who want quieter pools should avoid those weeks. Check exact dates by province, state and council on our school holidays page. Our Mexico destination file covers the wider country, and new hotel openings tracks resorts as they open.

Frequently asked questions

Which part of Cancún is best for adults-only resorts?

It depends on the trip. The Hotel Zone is closest to the airport and has nightlife. Costa Mujeres and Playa Mujeres have newer, more self-contained resorts but longer transfers.

What is the minimum age at Cancún’s adults-only resorts?

It varies. Ocean Allure Costa Mujeres says its guests must be 18 and over. Atelier Playa Mujeres sets 16. Check each resort’s policy before booking.

Do I still need an FMM tourist card for Cancún?

Yes, but it is now digital at the airport. If you use the e-gates, download it from the QR code on your gate ticket and keep it until you leave.

Is there sargassum in Cancún in winter?

There can be, but the University of South Florida’s outlooks show the region’s sargassum usually falls to its annual low around November. Check the Mexican Navy’s daily bulletin close to travel.

Last checked: 19 October 2026

Casie Stewart is Senior Editor at Not An Atlas, usually found in a Toronto coffee shop in a cute outfit, laptop open, coffee in hand and phone (always) within arm's reach. Some of her warmest memories are of fishing and camping in New Zealand's Bay of Islands with her family as a kid. She's a New Zealand citizen, and it will always feel like home. She takes the window seat (she wants to see the world, not the beverage cart), swears by her Trtl travel pillow (comfort over cool, always) and orders whatever the locals are having. Waking up to the sounds of the rainforest in the middle of the Costa Rican jungle is her “this is why I travel” moment, and Arizona's deserts and sunsets are where she'd go back tomorrow. She covers the places, people, food and festivals that make a destination memorable. Friends say funny, effervescent and organized. Her mum adds cuddly. Next stop: Bali.
