WestJet’s Calgary–Loreto Nonstop Returns, Twice Weekly in Winter
WestJet’s Calgary–Loreto nonstop restarts 30 October, weekly through May and twice weekly from mid-December. What Loreto offers, and when to go for whales.
WestJet’s seasonal nonstop from Calgary to Loreto, on Mexico’s Baja California Sur, restarts on Friday 30 October 2026. It runs weekly on Fridays through May 2027, and from mid-December to late April a second weekly flight is added on Mondays, according to Loreto’s tourism office.
It’s the only nonstop from Canada to Loreto, a small town on the Gulf of California that markets itself as “300 years old and still undiscovered”. For western Canadians, it’s a quieter alternative to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, without a resort strip.
The flights
- Route: Calgary (YYC) to Loreto (LTO), nonstop, on WestJet
- Season: 30 October 2026 to May 2027
- Frequency: weekly on Fridays; twice weekly (Mondays and Fridays) from mid-December to late April
- Friday schedule: WS2328 leaves Calgary at 11:10 a.m. and lands in Loreto at 2:20 p.m.; WS2329 leaves Loreto at 3:15 p.m. and lands in Calgary at 8:25 p.m. (approximate local times, per Loreto’s tourism office)
- Booking: westjet.com or a travel advisor. Confirm the Monday-flight times when booking.
The Monday flight makes it easier to book stays that don’t run Friday to Friday, which is useful in peak whale season.
Why Loreto
- The marine park: Loreto Bay National Marine Park is part of the UNESCO-listed Islands and Protected Areas of the Gulf of California, with more than 800 marine species. Whale watching, snorkelling, kayaking and island trips run from the harbour.
- Whales in winter: blue whales feed in the Gulf of California in late winter and early spring, so February and March are good months to book.
- History: founded in 1697, Loreto was the first Spanish settlement in the Californias. Its mission church, Nuestra Señora de Loreto, still stands on the town square.
- The mountains: the Sierra de la Giganta rises behind town, with desert hikes and rock art in the region.
New this winter
The tourism board is promoting the Loreto Live Well Experience, a wellness weekend from 15 to 17 January 2027 at Hotel Oasis. It also points to Mailena, a planned 96-room wellness resort at Danzante Bay, south of town. Its website now lists a spring 2027 opening, the tourism office told us; a firm date hasn’t been announced.
