Western Sydney International’s first full week brings three Jetstar routes and one Air New Zealand route. Melbourne and the Gold Coast run every day, Brisbane three days a week and Auckland on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Nothing else starts until Singapore Airlines on 23 November.

Jetstar’s JQ362 to the Gold Coast, at 11am on Sunday 25 October, was scheduled as the airport’s first passenger flight. Air New Zealand’s first service was set for Monday 26 October.

The week, day by day

Day Jetstar Air New Zealand
Tue 27 Oct Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane —
Wed 28 Oct Melbourne, Gold Coast Auckland
Thu 29 Oct Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane —
Fri 30 Oct Melbourne, Gold Coast Auckland
Sat 31 Oct Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane —
Sun 1 Nov Melbourne, Gold Coast —

Jetstar flies up to 14 times a week to Melbourne. It raised the Gold Coast from four a week to daily after its trial flight on 1 September. Every Jetstar flight is an A320.

Air New Zealand flies A320s and A321s, and they’re economy only at WSI. NZ166 leaves at 9:05am and lands in Auckland at 2:20pm. NZ165 leaves Auckland at 6:10am and lands at WSI at 7:55am. When we checked, the airline still listed lounge access at WSI as “to be confirmed”.

Check-in and timings

  • Air New Zealand says international check-in closes 90 or 120 minutes before departure, depending on the flight. The bag drop closing time is on the e-ticket and in the Air NZ app. For the 9:05am Auckland flight, plan to be there by 7am.
  • Jetstar opens online check-in 48 hours before departure. Carry-on-only passengers with a digital boarding pass can go straight to security. Anyone checking bags should arrive earlier.
  • The free WSI Link bus from St Marys station runs every 30 minutes, from 4:30am to midnight Sunday to Thursday and to 1am on Friday and Saturday. Transport for NSW expects the trip to take about 30 minutes in normal traffic. Parking at the St Marys Park&Ride is free.
