Labour Day, Advance Voting and a 7 November Election
Three weeks of holidays and voting dates will slow supplier replies and raise client questions on travel charges, so avoid quoting 2027 government levies as settled.
The next three weeks bring a long weekend, advance voting and a Saturday election. Expect slower supplier replies around the holidays, and client questions about whether visitor charges will change.
Holidays. Labour Day is Monday 26 October, according to Employment New Zealand. Hawke’s Bay observes its anniversary on Friday 23 October, Marlborough on Monday 2 November and Canterbury on Friday 13 November.
Voting. The Electoral Commission says overseas voting opens 21 October, enrolment closes 25 October and advance voting starts 26 October. Election day is Saturday 7 November, with voting places open 9am to 7pm. Official results are due 27 November.
Charges. The International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy is NZ$100, collected with a visa or NZeTA; Australian citizens and permanent residents are exempt, according to MBIE. Tourism Industry Aotearoa has asked parties to commit to its Tourism 2050 strategy, naming a national accommodation levy as one funding option.
