Flair Backs Anti-Trafficking Fundraiser
Flair Airlines sponsored a Toronto golf tournament that raised $140,000 for anti-child-trafficking programs. Here is how travel workers can learn to spot the signs.
Flair Airlines and Flair Vacations were sponsors of the fourth annual Driving For Change charity golf tournament on 24 September, which raised $140,000 net for organizations working against child trafficking. Driving For Change says it has raised $452,200 since 2023 for registered organizations that run prevention, intervention and recovery programs.
The tournament was held at Royal Woodbine Golf Club in Toronto, Over Here Toronto reported, and this year’s proceeds go to two organizations. BridgeNorth runs prevention, education and support programs for young people who are vulnerable to or have experienced sexual exploitation and trafficking. The Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women runs Connect Young, an anti-trafficking program for children and teens aged 10 to 17.
“Driving For Change brings people together around an incredibly important issue, and Flair is proud to amplify that work and support organizations providing critical services to survivors,” Flair CEO Len Corrado said in a statement.
Flair’s work on the issue goes beyond sponsorship. It is the airline listed in #NotInMyCity‘s airport program, which trains airport and airline staff to recognize signs of trafficking, using an approach designed to avoid putting possible victims at further risk. Airports, including Toronto Pearson, Vancouver, Calgary and Halifax, take part. #NotInMyCity also offers a free 30-minute public e-learning course.
If you’re travelling: If something you see doesn’t seem right, the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline (1-833-900-1010) is confidential, open 24 hours a day and available in more than 200 languages. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
