BA Turns the A380 Premium

British Airways' retrofitted A380s will carry 106 Club Suites across the whole upper deck and a new 12-seat First. The first aircraft enters service in the coming months.

British Airways is turning its largest aircraft into a premium machine. On 5 October the airline unveiled the cabins for its retrofitted Airbus A380s: a new First suite, 106 Club Suites filling the entire upper deck, and new World Traveller Plus and World Traveller seats. BA says the upper deck will be the world’s largest business class cabin. The first completed aircraft is expected to enter service in the coming months.

For agents, this ends a long-running problem. The A380 has carried BA’s oldest premium product on some of its busiest long-haul routes. Once refitted, it becomes one of the airline’s best.

The new layout

According to BA’s release, each retrofitted A380 will carry 417 seats:

  • First: 12
  • Club World: 106
  • World Traveller Plus: 84
  • World Traveller: 215

The Club cabin is split into four zones, with “dwell areas”, Club Kitchens and redesigned galleys. The Club Suite keeps its lie-flat bed and privacy door, with better storage and new blue, red and cream accents.

In First, the centre-suite divider opens into a shared space for companions, with stowable tables for dining together. Each suite has its own minibar.

World Traveller Plus gets larger screens, privacy wings and new bedding. Economy gets wider seats, larger screens and better bedding.

BA says each retrofit involves more than 35,000 parts. It did not publish a cost for the A380 programme, framing it within the airline’s wider multi-billion-pound investment in customer experience. It did not say which routes get the first aircraft.

Sean Doyle, chairman and CEO, said: “This is a major milestone for British Airways and the future of our A380 fleet.”

On the ground

BA also set out the next phase of its Heathrow lounge rebuild. According to AeroTime, a new Terminal 5 C Gates lounge is due at the end of 2028, with a 17-metre bar; the T5 arrivals lounge will be refurbished from early 2027; and a new First check-in at Terminal 3, developed with American Airlines, opens this winter.

Onboard, BA’s new First dining began across the long-haul fleet on 1 October, and a new First amenity kit from 6 October, on outbound flights first.

For agents

  • Check the aircraft before you sell the seat. Until the retrofit is complete, A380 flights will mix old and new cabins. Confirm the configuration on the booking and manage expectations.
  • Sell the upper deck. With every Club seat upstairs, the A380 becomes the BA business class aircraft of choice for couples and repeat flyers once refitted.
  • Groups and families: 106 Club seats on one flight is real premium capacity for incentive groups and family travel in business.
  • Watch for: BA’s announcement of the first retrofitted routes and the fleet rollout timeline.
