HX Extends Its Greenland Promise to 2028
HX has extended its Greenland booking guarantee through 2028 after a record Arctic season for premium suites. It's cover advisors can sell now for 2027 and 2028.
HX Expeditions has extended its Greenland Promise through the end of the 2028 season. That gives advisors a written fallback to offer clients hesitant about booking Greenland two seasons out. The company announced the extension with its 2026 Arctic season wrap-up, released 2 to 3 October, and says the season brought its highest-ever premium suite bookings.
The guarantee
When HX expanded the Greenland Promise in June to all 2026 and 2027 Greenland sailings, it set out the terms. If HX cancels a voyage, or official government travel advice affects it, guests can:
- transfer to another expedition,
- take an additional 20% Future Cruise Credit, or
- request a full refund.
The guarantee covers East and West Greenland voyages and Arctic expeditions with Greenland calls. HX said at the time that it was meant to give “additional confidence for guests and travel advisors planning future travel to the region.” The new extension carries the promise through the end of the 2028 season, according to the company.
The season
HX ran 31 Arctic sailings in 2026, its 130th anniversary year. The company traces its Arctic history to an 1896 Svalbard voyage. According to HX:
- Guests logged 26,491 citizen science contributions across nine research programmes, including 23,518 iNaturalist observations, 1,286 ORCA records and 1,183 eBird submissions.
- The ships ran 363 science boat sessions.
- MS Fram hosted what HX calls a world-first Arctic trial of AI WAVE, a thermal imaging and artificial intelligence system built with Heriot-Watt University and marine specialist Seiche. It detects whale blows and surface activity to reduce collision risk for narwhal, beluga and bowhead whales.
- HX launched a free online Svalbard course with the University of Tasmania. Cruise Industry News reports that courses on Arctic Canada, Greenland, Iceland and the Northwest Passage are planned for 2027.
“Science is one of the most powerful ways to turn an Arctic journey into something that matters long after guests return home,” said Dr Verena Meraldi, HX chief scientist.
For advisors
- Lead with the guarantee. For clients who are unsure about committing to Greenland, the Promise is the answer to “what if.” Get the current written terms from HX and attach them to the quote.
- Book suites early. HX says premium suites set a record this Arctic season. For 2027 East Greenland and Svalbard departures, hold suite categories now.
- Sell the science. The citizen science programmes and the AI whale-detection trial give curious, repeat expedition clients a reason to choose HX. They also make a natural hook for multigenerational groups.
- Watch for 2027 course launches. The Greenland and Northwest Passage modules, once live, are free pre-trip homework to send clients.
