Rosewood Seoul

Rosewood Seoul will be the brand’s first hotel in South Korea, a new build beside Yongsan Park in the centre of the city. Announced in May 2023 for a 2027 opening, it has the strongest design credentials of Seoul’s upcoming luxury hotels, with architecture by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) and interiors by Copenhagen studio Space Copenhagen.

The setting

The hotel is part of The Parkside Seoul, a mixed-use development with high-end retail and residences on the former site of the United Nations Command. Yongsan Park is being created from former military land in the middle of the city, and the hotel sits close to the National Museum of Korea and the restaurants and bars of Itaewon. It is a central address without being in the corporate core.

The building and design

Rosewood says the design draws on Seoul’s futuristic lines and bold facades. KPF’s architecture and Space Copenhagen’s interiors suggest something calmer and more residential inside than the city’s glossier towers.

About 250 rooms and suites are planned, which Rosewood says will be among the largest in the city. Other announced facilities include:

  • Seven restaurants and bars
  • An Asaya wellness centre of about 4,500 sq m with an indoor pool, hydrotherapy, saunas and an indoor golf facility
  • About 1,800 sq m of event space
  • A Rosewood Explorers kids’ club

What it means for advisors

Seoul has become a serious city-break destination for clients drawn by food, design, shopping and Korean culture, and it works well as a first or last stop on a Japan or wider Asia trip. Large rooms, a substantial spa and a kids’ club make this a good fit for families and for longer stays. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons for walking the city.

Opening status

Rosewood announced the hotel in May 2023 with a 2027 opening, and its property page still lists 2027 without a month. The developer is Eleven D&C, a South Korean real estate company that appointed Rosewood to manage the hotel. No booking date has been published.
