Rosewood Ranfaru

Rosewood Ranfaru will be Rosewood’s first resort in the Maldives, spread across a chain of private islands around a lagoon in South Malé Atoll. It was announced in 2023 for a 2027 opening, with Qatari investment company Estithmar Holding as developer. Its main advantages are size of villa and ease of access: about 120 villas of up to five bedrooms, a short hop from the international airport.

The setting

Rosewood says the resort is reached by a 35-minute yacht ride or a 10-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport in Malé. That is a short transfer by Maldives standards, and it means clients can arrive on most international connections and be in the water the same afternoon, rather than overnighting near the airport.

Rooms and suites

Plans call for around 120 beachfront and overwater villas with one to five bedrooms, all with private pools according to Rosewood’s property page. A select number will sit on their own private islands. No architect or interior designer has been named, though Rosewood says the design follows its A Sense of Place philosophy.

The resort will include an Asaya wellbeing facility and fitness centre, multiple pools for adults and families, paddle courts and water sports in the lagoon. Dining will be spread across several specialty restaurants and a beach club, though none have been named.

What it means for advisors

Multi-bedroom pool villas and a quick transfer make this a strong option for families and multigenerational groups, who often find the Maldives hard to book well. Other selling points:

  • Rosewood Explorers club for children
  • Private-island villas for clients who want a buyout feel
  • Short transfers that suit shorter stays or add-ons to a Sri Lanka, India or Middle East trip

Peak demand runs through the drier months, roughly December to April, plus school holidays.

Opening status

Rosewood announced Ranfaru in April 2023 with a 2027 opening, and its property page still lists 2027 without a month. No booking date has been released. One early local report carried a 2025 date in its web address, but the brand’s own materials have consistently said 2027.
