Waldorf Astoria Tokyo Nihonbashi
Waldorf Astoria Tokyo Nihonbashi will be the brand’s first hotel in Japan, occupying the upper floors of a new skyscraper by Mitsui Fudosan in Nihonbashi, the old merchant district at the heart of Tokyo. Hilton first announced it in 2020 and the timeline has since moved. The selling point is space: every room starts at 60 square metres, which is generous by Tokyo standards.
The setting
Nihonbashi sits between Tokyo Station and Ginza, close to the Marunouchi, Yaesu and Otemachi business districts. Hilton says the hotel will connect directly to Nihonbashi Station and sit about 20 km from Haneda Airport. The neighbourhood is known for long-established shops and department stores, which gives it a different feel from the newer luxury clusters in Roppongi or Toranomon.
The hotel occupies floors 39 to 47 of a 52-storey tower of roughly 284 metres, part of a three-building mixed-use project with offices, retail and housing. Floors 48 to 51 will hold Waldorf Astoria Residences Tokyo Nihonbashi, 71 rental apartments that Mitsui Fudosan says are the brand’s first residences in Asia Pacific. No architect or interior designer has been named for the hotel.
Rooms and suites
Hilton has announced:
- 197 rooms and suites, all from 60 sq m
- Three restaurants, plus a Peacock Alley lounge and bar
- An indoor pool, spa and fitness centre
- 583 sq m of event space, including a ballroom and a chapel
What it means for advisors
Japan remains one of the strongest markets for clients from Canada, the US, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and Tokyo still has a shortage of genuinely large luxury rooms. This hotel suits families and longer stays, and its station connection makes it a practical base before heading out on the shinkansen from Tokyo Station. Spring blossom and autumn foliage are peak periods, so early holds will matter. The hotel will be part of Hilton Honors, which helps with clients who collect points.
Opening status
The 2020 announcement pointed to 2026. Hilton’s press page now says 2027, and Mitsui Fudosan said in September 2025 that the tower’s construction should finish by the end of 2026, with residence tenants arriving in late 2027. Trade listings give fall 2027 for the hotel, but Hilton has not confirmed a month.
