NoMad Detroit

NoMad Detroit will put a luxury hotel inside Michigan Central Station, the restored 1913 rail terminal that Ford reopened in June 2024 after a six-year restoration. The hotel will have nearly 180 rooms, including 30 suites, and will be NoMad’s first in Michigan. Michigan Central, Ford, Hilton and NoMad announced the deal in June 2025.

The building and design

The station was designed by Warren & Wetmore and Reed & Stem. NoMad will take the west side of the building and the top five floors of the tower, floors 14 to 18, which will be occupied for the first time in the building’s history. Historic details are being restored, and public spaces and rooms will feature work by Detroit artists and makers. No design firm has been named.

Eat and drink

NoMad plans to reimagine the station’s historic restaurant and carriage house with its signature restaurant and bar concepts. Names, chefs and menus have not been announced. Given how the brand’s restaurants have performed in New York and London, the dining will probably draw as many locals as hotel guests.

What it means for advisors

Detroit has not had much to offer luxury travellers. A NoMad inside the city’s best-known landmark, which drew nearly 300,000 visitors in its first year, gives advisors something to sell for design and architecture weekends, food trips and Ford-related corporate travel. For Canadian clients it is just across the river from Windsor, Ontario. NoMad is a Hilton brand, and Hilton calls this its first luxury lifestyle hotel in the United States, so check how Hilton’s guest and advisor benefits will apply closer to opening.

Opening status

The June 2025 announcement from Michigan Central and Hilton gives an opening in 2027. No month has been confirmed, and we found no later update changing that date. Bookings have not opened.
