A Chilean Winery Hotel Gets Its Key
Hotel Casa Real, the heritage hotel at Chile's Viña Santa Rita, has won its first MICHELIN Key. It is 45 minutes from Santiago, which makes it an easy wine add-on.
The MICHELIN Guide has given Hotel Casa Real at Viña Santa Rita its first Key, the guide’s hotel equivalent of a restaurant star. Chile now has 20 Key hotels, up from 17 when the country was first included in 2025. Two of them are winery hotels.
The estate
Hotel Casa Real sits on the Santa Rita Estate in Alto Jahuel, in the Maipo Valley, 45 minutes from Santiago. The house was designed by German architect Teodoro Burchard and declared a National Historic Monument in 1972. Guests have:
- a 40-hectare park, more than a century old
- a neo-Gothic chapel and historic cellars
- Doña Paula restaurant, named for Paula Jaraquemada and her role in Chile’s independence
- the Andean Museum of the Claro Vial Foundation, with more than 3,000 archaeological and ethnographic pieces from South America’s Indigenous peoples
The estate’s flagship wine, Casa Real, is a Cabernet Sauvignon made only in exceptional vintages since 1989. Santa Rita says it was the first Latin American wine named a “Wine Legend” by Decanter.
“We are filled with pride that Hotel Casa Real has earned its first Michelin Key,” said Elena Carretero, Santa Rita’s director of corporate affairs, sustainability and tourism.
For advisors
- Who to pitch: wine clients on a Chile or Argentina trip who want one night of heritage after Santiago, before heading to the coast or Patagonia.
- What to book: a cellar visit and dinner at Doña Paula; give the Andean Museum time.
- Why now: the Key gives you a third-party reason to add a night to Santiago itineraries.
