Not An Atlas (“we”, “us”) is published by Loveseyland Ltd. in Toronto, Canada. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit notanatlas.com and how it is used.

What we collect

Usage data. We use Google Analytics to understand which stories people read and which features they use, such as search, sharing and newsletter sign-ups. It collects things like pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site.

Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe to The Trade Brief, we store your email address to send it to you. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep that correspondence so we can reply.

Ask the Atlas questions. Ask the Atlas answers from our own published reporting, on our own server. If we switch on an AI model to write fuller answers, the question you type is sent to that model’s provider (for example Cloudflare Workers AI or Groq, which run Meta’s Llama models) to generate a reply; no other information about you is sent with it. Don’t include personal information in your questions. Answers may be cached briefly so repeat questions load faster, and we apply an hourly limit per visitor to prevent abuse.

We do not sell your personal information.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of many third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info.

Airplane mode and Listen

Airplane mode saves the stories you choose, and their photos, in your own browser so you can read them offline. Your reading list is stored only on your device (in browser storage and the browser cache); we never receive it. Remove stories from the Airplane mode list, or clear your browser data, to delete them.

Listen reads stories aloud using the voice built into your device or browser. We don’t send the text anywhere ourselves, but some browsers use their maker’s online voice service (for example, Google’s voices in Chrome), which is covered by that company’s privacy terms. Where a story has a recorded or narrated audio file, it plays from our site.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We use them for analytics, advertising and basic site functions such as caching. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before non-essential cookies are set.

Service providers

The site is hosted by Hostinger. Analytics and advertising are provided by Google. If we switch on an AI model for Ask the Atlas, that provider (for example Cloudflare or Groq) generates the answers. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), and the GDPR where it applies, you can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you. Contact us at notanatlas@loveseyland.com.
